Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints: A Great Matchup Between Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees

When the 2-0 Green Bay Packers take on the 1-1 New Orleans Saints on Sunday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the game will feature two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

I’m talking about Aaron Rodgers of the Packers and Drew Brees of the Saints. Both will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on their first go around when the time comes. Both have won a Super Bowl. Both were also Super Bowl MVPs.

The numbers that each of them have put up so far in their career is mind-boggling.

Rodgers has thrown 370 touchdown passes in his career compared to just 84 picks for 47,550 yards. No. 12 passer rating for his career is 102.6, which is the best of all time. Rodgers has a career record of 115-60-1.

In the postseason, Rodgers has a record of 10-8, but most of those losses were due to the defense of the Packers giving up way too many points. In fact, in the eight losses that the Packers have had with Rodgers as quarterback in the playoffs, the Packers have given up an average of 36 points per game. Not too many quarterbacks can overcome that.

Rodgers has put up great numbers in the postseason, very similar to his regular season stats. Rodgers has thrown 40 touchdown passes compared to just 12 interceptions for 5,027 yards. The career passer rating for Rodgers is 100.0, which is fourth all time.

Brees has thrown 550 touchdown passes which makes No. 9 the all-time leader. Brees has also thrown 238 interceptions. The career passing yardage for Brees is 77,888 yards, which is also the best of all time. Brees has a career passer rating of 98.3, which is third all time, behind only Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Brees has a career record of 164-112.

In the postseason, Brees has a 8-8 record. The former Purdue Boilermaker has thrown 34 touchdown passes compared to 12 picks for 4,967 yards. The career passer rating for Brees in the postseason is 99.6, which is sixth all time, right behind Rodgers.

In the game on Sunday night, both Rodgers and Brees could be without their main weapon in terms of catching the ball. Davante Adams of the Packers is questionable for the game with a hamstring injury, while Michael Thomas of the Saints is also questionable with a high ankle sprain. Of the two, Adams has the best chance of playing.

The injuries to Adams and Thomas will be offset by the great running backs each team has.

Aaron Jones of the Packers leads the NFL in rushing with 234 yards. No. 33 also has three rushing touchdowns. In addition to that, Jones is a great receiver, as he has eight receptions for 78 yards and another score.

The Saints have Alvin Kamara, who has rushed for 95 yards and also has three rushing touchdowns. No. 41 also has 14 receptions for 146 yards and another score.

So far in 2020, Rodgers has had a terrific start to the season, as he has thrown six touchdown passes without a pick for 604 yards. The former Cal Bear has a passer rating of 119.4 so far this season.

Brees has thrown three touchdown passes compared to one pick for 472 yards. The passer rating for Brees so far in 2020 is 93.5.

In his career versus the Saints, Rodgers has a 3-2 record. No. 12 has thrown 10 touchdown passes versus six interceptions for 1,297 yards. The career passer rating for Rodgers versus the Saints is 100.2.

In his career against the Packers, Brees is 4-3. No. 9 has thrown 18 touchdown passes versus four picks for 2,546 yards. The career passer rating for Brees against the Packers is 110.4.

The bottom line is that folks should expect to see a great game on Sunday night, as they will get to see two NFL quarterbacks who have thrown a combined 920 career touchdown passes.

Expect to see a few more on Sunday night.
